How to sell on Jumia and Jiji in Ghana: fees, rules, payouts

10 min read

Two large glossy white market stalls side by side on a black floor and a smaller white shop with its own awning set apart on the right, joined by a thin red line that runs to the small shop's door.

To sell on Jumia Ghana, sign up free in Jumia's Vendor Center with your ID or business papers and a MoMo or bank account, complete the mandatory seller training, and pay a commission of 5% to 20% on each sale plus a shipping contribution. Jiji is a classifieds site: posting is free up to a limit, and Jiji handles neither payment nor delivery, so you deal with buyers yourself.

Jumia, Jiji or your own store: what is the difference?

Jumia is a marketplace. Buyers order on Jumia, Jumia delivers, and Jumia pays you weekly after taking its commission. Jiji is a classifieds site: you post an ad, buyers contact you, and the two of you agree payment and delivery. Your own store is a website you run, where you keep the margin and the customer relationship but bring every visitor yourself.

Both platforms are active in Ghana. Jumia's 2025 annual report lists Ghana among the nine African countries it operated in at the end of 2025; it left Algeria early in 2026, and its second-quarter 2026 results named Ghana, with Nigeria, as delivering another strong quarter. Jiji took over its Ghanaian rival Tonaton in a deal announced in early February 2022.

How do you become a seller on Jumia Ghana?

Sign up in Jumia's Vendor Center; some of Jumia's pages still call it Seller Center. Jumia says registration is free, with no monthly fees or hidden costs, and that it charges only a commission on each successful sale. It puts verification at 2 to 3 business days, and its New Seller Training is mandatory before you start.

Jumia's Ghana document page has two tracks. Individuals upload a valid ID, contact details, the business location and payment details, either an MTN Mobile Money number or a bank account, with proof the account is theirs, such as a MoMo statement. Companies upload a valid commercial registration, a tax document and bank details. Jumia's pages are not consistent, and its home page lists business registration as step one, so have your ORC certificate ready if you have one.

Read the prohibited list before you list anything. Jumia bans counterfeits, prescription medicines, medical devices, narcotics, weapons, currency, used products and hazardous goods. A first counterfeit offence costs a GHS 1,200 penalty if you cannot prove the item is genuine within 10 business days, Jumia may also withhold payments or destroy stock, and a second offence gets the store delisted for good.

What does Jumia charge sellers in Ghana?

Jumia takes a commission on each sale, VAT inclusive, plus a shipping contribution that depends on the category and on how you ship. Its 2026 table for Ghana runs from 5% to 20%. A separate sheet Jumia links to sets rates by sub-category and differs from the summary in places, so check the exact sub-category of each product before you set a price. A selection from the 2026 table:

Jumia shows how to set the shelf price: add the shipping contribution to what you want to receive, then divide by one minus the commission. To receive GHS 950 on a fashion item, with an 8 cedi contribution and a 20% commission, Jumia's own example lists it at (950 + 8) / 0.8 = GHS 1,198. Displaying products is free, and storage in Jumia's warehouse is free for 15 days, then charged by age and size.

Jumia also scores sellers. Below a seller score of 3.0, it adds a low-score contribution on top of the commission, rising to 75% of the commission at the bottom of the scale. Shipping on time and keeping returns low protect your margin as much as the price does.

How does Jumia deliver orders and pay you?

You choose how to fulfil orders. With Jumia Express, also called Fulfilled by Jumia, Jumia stores your stock and packs and delivers each order. With Dropship, you keep the stock and take each package to a Jumia drop-off station after an order; Jumia's shipping page asks for that within 48 hours. Jumia lists seven vendor drop-off points in Ghana, including Spintex, East Legon, Circle, Osu, Tema and Adum in Kumasi.

Jumia pays your earnings weekly into your registered account. Each week's statement closes on Sunday, and Jumia transfers that week's money the following week. Factor the wait into your cash: stock you sell on Monday is paid for the week after.

Check Jumia's current return window in your Vendor Center before you list items that buyers often send back. Ghana's Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) also gives online buyers the right to cancel goods within 14 days of receiving them, paying only the direct cost of returning them, with exceptions such as perishable goods and items made to the buyer's specification.

How do you sell on Jiji Ghana?

Create an account on jiji.com.gh, post an ad with photos, a price and a description, and wait for Jiji's review. Jiji says the item must be in Ghana. Ads stay up for one to three months. Posting is free up to a limit in some categories; once you reach it, Jiji offers a paid Premium package.

Jiji sells two kinds of visibility. TOP puts an ad at the top of search results for 7 or 30 days, and Boost packages, from Basic up to Diamond and Enterprise, run for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. With an active Boost package you can add Pro Sales, a pay-per-click option where bids in Ghana run from GHS 0.50 to GHS 3 a click and daily budgets from GHS 50 to GHS 3,000.

Jiji bills in credits worth one cedi each, says its fees are non-refundable, and shows package prices only after you sign in. A Verified ID badge, which matches your ID document to a selfie, needs an active Boost package, so on Jiji, verification costs money.

How do you stay safe and get paid on Jiji?

Jiji works like a noticeboard. In its own words it is not a shop and does not deliver, and the sale is a contract between buyer and seller that Jiji is not part of. Payment, delivery and any dispute are for you and the buyer to settle.

Jiji tells buyers to avoid sending prepayments and to meet in a public place or pay on delivery, and it admits it cannot vouch for every seller. Careful buyers will follow that advice, so make it easy for them: meet in a busy public place, offer payment on delivery through a rider you trust, or send a payment link that shows your business name.

For buyers outside your area, Jumia runs a separate service, Jumia Delivery, that carries parcels for sales made off Jumia through more than 120 pickup points across all 16 regions, with fees paid at the station. Our guide 'Delivery for online sellers in Ghana' compares it with riders and couriers.

When should you build your own store?

Use Jumia to reach buyers who have never heard of you and Jiji to clear stock near you, and watch what fees do to your margin. On a GHS 250 dress, Jumia's 20% fashion commission is GHS 50 before the shipping contribution. On your own checkout, Paystack's 1.95% comes to about GHS 4.88.

Your own store pays off when the same buyers come back, when you want to run ads straight to a checkout that counts every sale, or when marketplace fees take most of the margin on your best sellers. You also keep the customer relationship, and can message buyers again with their consent.

'How much does an online store cost in Ghana?' sets out first-year budgets. Maxme's Store Launch builds the store with MoMo checkout, delivery zones and tracking for GHS 5,000 (about US$430) on WooCommerce or GHS 6,000 (about US$517) on Shopify, one-off and excluding VAT; see our pricing page. Keep Jumia running beside it while it sells. Not sure which channel earns you more? Maxme's free Ads & Store Audit tells you whether a store would earn you more than your current setup, in a short video on WhatsApp within 2 working days.
