How much do Facebook ads cost in Ghana? (2026)

A shower of small white spheres falling into a glossy white funnel on a black floor, with only a few spheres rolling out toward one white parcel, and a thin red line dropping through the funnel to loop around the parcel.

Facebook ads in Ghana cost whatever budget you set: there is no price list, and Meta usually charges per impression through an auction. GIET Worldwide's 2026 study of 200 Ghanaian campaigns found a typical GHS 18.99 per 1,000 impressions and GHS 5.02 per WhatsApp or Messenger chat. Meta adds 20% VAT on top. Plan around cost per paid order, not cost per chat.

How much do Facebook ads cost in Ghana?

Facebook ads in Ghana have no price list. You set a budget, per day or for the whole campaign, and Meta spends it through an auction, usually charging you for impressions, the number of times your ad is shown. Meta's help centre says it plainly: when you advertise on Meta, you decide how much you want to spend.

So the useful question is what your budget buys. The most detailed public answer for Ghana at the time of writing (September 2026) comes from GIET Worldwide, a Ghanaian digital marketing agency and training institute, which published benchmarks from 200 Ghanaian campaigns run in 2026. Its typical figures are GHS 18.99 for every 1,000 impressions and GHS 5.02 for each WhatsApp or Messenger conversation.

Two costs sit on top of the ads. Meta adds VAT and levies to every charge for a Ghana address, 20% in total under the Ghana Revenue Authority's 2026 rates, so GHS 1,000 of ads costs GHS 1,200; our guide 'VAT on Facebook ads in Ghana (2026)' explains it. Agency fees are separate too, and 'How much does a Facebook ads agency cost in Ghana?' covers them.

How does Meta decide what you pay?

Each time someone in Accra or Tamale scrolls past a space for an ad, Meta runs an auction among the advertisers whose audience includes that person. So there is no single Ghana price, and it drifts: Meta says its delivery system takes the cheapest opportunities first, then may move to more expensive ones, so cost per result can climb over a campaign's life.

Meta also warns that when you optimise for conversions, CPM alone is a poor guide, because the system may pay more per impression to reach people who act. Judge an ad by the cost of the result you asked for, not by how cheaply it was shown.

Relevance matters as much as money. Meta says an ad that is more relevant to a person can beat ads with higher bids, which is why a clear phone video of the product with the price can win cheaper results than a crowded flyer. The winner is the ad with the highest total value, subject to a price floor, and total value combines three things:

  • Your bid: what you are willing to pay for the result you chose. Most small advertisers let Meta bid automatically, which aims to spend the budget evenly.
  • Estimated action rate: how likely this person is to do what you asked for, such as start a WhatsApp chat.
  • Ad quality: judged partly from people hiding or giving feedback on the ad, and from signs such as sensational language, withheld information and engagement bait.

What do Facebook ads cost in cedis in 2026?

GIET Worldwide's study, published on 21 September 2026, covers 200 campaigns from 29 businesses between 1 January and 20 September 2026, with GHS 307,331 of spend taken from Meta Ads Manager exports. It found Ghanaian advertisers put 84.6% of that spend into Messages and WhatsApp campaigns. The typical conversation cost GHS 5.02, and the middle half of campaigns paid between GHS 3.09 and GHS 8.12.

Read these as GIET's numbers, with GIET's caveats. The sample is businesses that use an agency, not every advertiser in Ghana; it covers Meta only; it converts at GHS 12.5 to the dollar, its 2026 average; and GIET itself says a conversation is not a sale. The last column of the table is our arithmetic for GHS 500 of ad spend at each median, before VAT.

Other Ghanaian agencies publish their own ranges; Mckot Digital, for example, puts enquiries at GHS 15 to GHS 80 per lead depending on the industry. Ranges that wide are the honest answer: your product, price and ads decide where you land, which is why the method further down matters more than any average.

What is the minimum budget for Facebook ads in Ghana?

Meta publishes no cedi minimum, because the cedi is not one of its accepted ad account currencies, so Ghanaian ad accounts usually run in US dollars. Meta's current help page does not print a fixed dollar minimum either. It says minimum budgets may vary by country and objective, and depend on your business vertical, budget type, bid strategy, optimisation, currency and schedule.

In practice, Ads Manager tells you: Meta says you will see an alert if your budget is below its minimum, and a recommendation if it meets the minimum but may be too low for good results. Many guides still quote a flat $1 a day, but Meta's page gives no such figure, so trust the alert on your own screen.

Meta does publish two useful rules. If you set a cost per result goal, your daily budget should be at least 5 times that goal, so a $2 goal needs $10 a day. And a daily budget is an average, not a cap: Meta may spend up to 75% more on a good day, but no more than 7 times the daily budget in a Sunday to Saturday week.

The practical floor is the learning phase. Meta says ad sets usually leave it after about 50 results in the week after the last significant edit, and that very small budgets give the system a poor signal. If each WhatsApp conversation costs you GHS 8, fifty a week is GHS 400, about GHS 57 a day before VAT.

How much does it cost to boost a post on Facebook or Instagram in Ghana?

A boost costs whatever budget you give it. Meta says boosted posts are still ads, and your bill lists them as ads, whether you tap Boost on Facebook or on Instagram. So the benchmarks above apply: at GIET's median CPM, a GHS 100 boost buys roughly 5,300 impressions, and GHS 120 leaves your card once VAT is added.

Impressions are not people. Meta counts an impression each time the ad is shown, so one person can see your boost several times. What a boost buys also depends on its goal: left on engagement, it finds people who like and comment; set to get more messages, it looks for people likely to start a chat. Our guide 'Boost post or Ads Manager?' compares the two routes.

Instagram ads come from the same ad account, through Ads Manager placements or a boost from your Instagram profile. GIET's study does not split costs between the two apps, and we found no reliable Ghana figure that does. One trap is documented: Meta says Apple may keep a 30% service fee in most regions when you add funds inside the Instagram iPhone app, so pay from a browser instead.

What makes Facebook ads cost more or less in Ghana?

The same GHS 500 can buy about 60 conversations or about 160, the spread across the middle half of GIET's campaigns. GIET does not break costs down by month or region, so we cannot give you a December figure. Compare your own November and December cost per paid order instead, and budget for the difference next year.

Some of what decides your cost is in your hands and some is the market around you, but all of it runs through the auction described above: who else wants the same people, and how likely your ad is to get the result you asked for. These are the factors that move cost most for a Ghanaian advertiser:

  • Objective and optimisation: rarer results cost more. Meta says optimising for purchases may need more budget than optimising for landing page views, and a chat is easier to win than a paid order.
  • Audience size: a narrow audience, such as women aged 25 to 34 within a few kilometres of Osu, leaves fewer auctions to enter than all of Greater Accra, so each result can cost more.
  • Creative: estimated action rates and ad quality are part of the auction, so an ad people watch and tap wins more cheaply than one they scroll past or hide.
  • Season: in December, and before Easter, Valentine's Day and school reopening, more Ghanaian businesses chase the same buyers, so auctions get busier and CPM can rise. Start two or three weeks early so learning ends before the rush.
  • Where ads are shown: Meta now adds a location fee to impressions delivered in six countries, including 2% in the United Kingdom, so ads aimed at the diaspora in London cost slightly more. Ghana is not on the list.
  • Edits: each significant edit restarts learning, when Meta says ad sets are less stable and usually cost more per result.

How much should a small business spend on Facebook ads in Ghana?

Work backwards from paid orders, not from a round number. The method needs three inputs you can measure after two weeks of ads: what a chat costs you, how many chats pay, and your profit per order after product and delivery costs. The example inputs below are illustrations to show the arithmetic, not averages and not our client data.

Plan on a cautious cost per chat. The GHS 8 used below sits at the costly end of GIET's middle half on purpose; if yours comes in lower, good. And if the profit check fails, fix the price, the bundle or the delivery fee before you raise the budget, because more spend only makes a losing order more expensive. The steps, with example inputs:

  • Cost per paid order = cost per chat divided by the share of chats that pay. Example: GHS 8 per chat, and 1 in 5 chats pays, gives GHS 40 per paid order.
  • Test budget = the paid orders you want to learn from, times cost per paid order. Example: 20 paid orders in a month times GHS 40 is GHS 800 of ad spend.
  • Add VAT: at 20%, GHS 800 of ads becomes GHS 960 charged to your card.
  • Check profit: each order must earn more than GHS 48 (GHS 40 plus VAT) after product and delivery costs, or the ads lose money at these inputs.
  • Check learning: 20 paid orders at 1 in 5 means 100 chats a month, about 23 a week, which is under Meta's 50. Keep one ad set rather than splitting the budget.

Why is cost per paid order the number that matters?

Because a chat pays nothing. GIET's own smartphone retailer example shows the gap: online orders cost GHS 9.24 each in ads, but only about 2 in 10 became paid sales, as reported by the business, so each real sale cost about GHS 46. Judged on orders, the campaign looked five times cheaper than it was.

Our guide 'Click-to-WhatsApp ads in Ghana' shows how to label chats so you can count paid orders per ad, and 'Facebook ads not converting in Ghana?' covers what to fix when chats do not pay. When we audit Ghanaian ad accounts, the number most often missing is cost per paid order: the chats are counted, the MoMo payments are not.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum budget for Facebook ads in Ghana?

Meta publishes no cedi minimum, because the cedi is not an accepted ad account currency, and its current help page gives no fixed dollar minimum either. Minimums vary with your country, objective, bid strategy and schedule, and Ads Manager shows an alert if your budget is too low. In practice, budget for about 50 results a week per ad set, the point at which Meta says learning usually ends.

How much does Facebook charge for 1,000 views in Ghana?

Meta calls this CPM, the cost per 1,000 impressions. GIET Worldwide's 2026 study of 200 Ghanaian campaigns found a typical CPM of GHS 18.99, with the middle half of campaigns between GHS 13.80 and GHS 25.83, at the time of writing (September 2026). Impressions are not people, since one person can see an ad more than once, and Meta adds 20% VAT on top.

Is $5 a day enough for Facebook ads in Ghana?

For one ad set aiming at WhatsApp chats, it can be. $5 a day allows up to $35 a week, about GHS 407 at the Bank of Ghana mid-rate on 24 September 2026, or $42 with 20% VAT. At GIET Worldwide's median of $0.40 per conversation, that is roughly 87 chats a week, above the 50 results Meta says learning needs. Paid orders cost more per result, so expect far fewer.

Do Instagram ads cost more than Facebook ads?

There is no fixed difference. Instagram and Facebook ads come from the same ad account and compete in the same Meta auction, and GIET Worldwide's 2026 Ghana benchmark does not split costs by app. You can compare placements in Ads Manager breakdowns, but Meta warns that a placement with a higher cost per result can still be delivering your cheapest results overall.

Why are my Facebook ad costs going up?

Meta says its delivery system uses the cheapest opportunities first and then moves to more expensive ones, so cost per result can rise over a campaign's life. Other common causes are frequent edits that restart the learning phase, the same ads shown to the same people for too long, and busy seasons such as December. Check your cost per paid order before you change anything.

How much should I spend on Facebook ads to get sales in Ghana?

Work backwards. Divide your cost per chat by the share of chats that pay to get your cost per paid order, multiply by the paid orders you want in a month, then add 20% VAT. With illustrative inputs of GHS 8 per chat and 1 in 5 chats paying, 20 paid orders need GHS 800 of ads, or GHS 960 charged to your card.
